Fatayer bi Banadoura
Full of tomatoes
“For the second dish of the series of culinary performances on forgotten or unknown dishes, I chose a pastry exclusive to my mother’s village Beit Chabeb. It’s Fatayer bi Banadoura – Tomato pastries. After going through the recipe with some of the women of my village, holding long discussions and also researching the history of tomatoes, the performance will walk us into the road of love, toxicity, and death. Together with the audience, we will be making those fatayer and celebrating life and death. It is a participatory performance where the audience will be invited to contribute to the Fatayer making.”
The 50 minute performance is part of ArtEvolution, a project of the Goethe-Institut, supported by the German Federal Foreign Office. It was played in Zoukak, Cinema Royal during the British council festival, and Mansion as part of BAH the season 0. It will be also played in Reims-France during the MÉLI’MÔME festival and in Nantes during the Petits et Grands festival
Being interested in both theater and food -cooking- Hiba finds herself searching for common features and implicit links between the two forms of art. Theatre has a social and collective identity, and so does food. In both practices, similar rhythms and rituals are found. They are to be explored through a series of culinary performances.
